FRIEND

Condition monitoring based on real-time data has become an integral part of the operational support of products and systems delivered by Framo Engineering.

Condition-based and planned preventative maintenance is practiced using a system called FRIEND, an abbreviation for "FRamo Interactive ENabling Diagnostics".

Through FRIEND, Framo Engineering is responsible for a real-time historical database that facilitates real-time access to defined records and data structures, providing the possibility to conduct event-driven data collection and trends of historical data stored in the database. The data-collection and storage is a centralized repository located in Framo’s premises at Sandsli, Bergen.

Online functionality is facilitated through a FRIEND Web Portal which is administered and managed by FE CS personnel. To access the FRIEND Web Portal, multi-level authorization is required, and data integrity is assured with appropriate security measures.

FRIEND also generates “Framo internal” alerts that originate from the automated monitoring methodology – either coming from operational condition deviations measured against best practice in equipment operation, or from equipment condition changes measured against an initial fingerprint performance.

Whereas operational experience is a necessary input to the continuous development of FRIEND, the system has also been augmented with an integrated working methodology between supplier and operator.

This working methodology enables best practice in the operation of equipment as well as safeguarding equipment lifetime with condition-based preventative maintenance support. Indeed, the methodology provides the opportunity to practice a consistent, pro-active and positive approach towards the operation and maintenance of equipment - with supplier & operator considered as equal discussion partners when addressing operational issues.
